WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

A classic medium roast that’s chocolate forward with notes of caramel and butterscotch, and a nice crisp clean finish. Delicious straight out of an auto-drip, but has an additional layer of shine and fruit (apple!) when brewed as pourover or pulled as espresso. Enjoy this one black, but also know it holds up beautifully with your favorite milk.

ORIGIN STORY

Our LEGACY SERIES highlights coffees produced in family-owned farms. Today, La Palma is owned and operated by Lisandro Hidalgo. La Palma was founded almost 100 years ago by Lisandro's great grandfather. It’s only been in the last few decades that coffee has become the farm’s primary focus.

La Palma, located in Huehuetenango, sits between 1700 and 1950 meters above sea level. Lisandro wet ferments his coffee for 24 to 36 hours after pulping, and dries it in the sun for around 6 days. The region of Huehuetenango overall is known for its high altitude, dry microclimate, and nutrient-rich volcanic soil - making it prime for coffee growing, and a crowd-favorite origin amongst specialty coffee producers, roasters, and drinkers.

The coffee is part of Coffee Shrub’s direct trade buying program called Farm Gate. Through this program, Coffee Shrub is committed to paying coffee producers premium prices for quality coffee. Farm Gate guarantees prices that are 50% over Fair Trade (FT) pricing; oftentimes prices are 100%+ more than FT minimums.
